The Black church has played a vital role in the shaping of American political history. African American churches provided spaces for not only spiritual formation but also political activism.
Growing up has its benefits: more years learning about God, more years cultivating deep, godly friendships, more years finding your place in the world.
Hopefully this time next year I can look back and feel more accomplished in my attempts. But it’ll take a lot of work and some different choices to strive towards meeting those goals.

The author of Hebrews warns against “neglecting to meet together” (10:25), but research indicates both alarming declines and hopeful signs among younger generations when it comes to church attendance.
When we live our daily lives for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom and we are motivated by the joys of being invited to join in on God’s timeless work of redemption and displayed glory, what can damper that?
If I’m not prioritizing my time spent in prayer, diving into the text, and considering the interpretations, implications, and applications of that week’s passage, then I won’t be prepared to support, encourage and learn alongside other believers.
