Faithful through it all

While we may be discouraged about events unfolding around us, whether they be global, national or personal, we can rest in God’s sovereignty and faithfulness. We can rest in His goodness.

Can you believe it’s already 2022? Can you believe it’s 2022 and COVID-19 is still running rampant?

The emergence of the omicron variant and continued rise in COVID-19 cases have discouraged me. It seems we’ll never get to a place where COVID-19 isn’t taking lives and devastating families everywhere we look.

I took that discouragement to the Lord in my prayer time this morning.

Gentle reminder

God didn’t flood me with peace and trust that the pandemic will one day end or that COVID-19 will be eradicated. Instead, He gave me a gentle reminder of His sovereignty and faithfulness. And I think that reminder is something we could all use.

Our God is sovereign

At the creation of the world, He knew that 2020 would hold the COVID-19 pandemic. It didn’t take Him by surprise. We may never fully understand why God allowed COVID-19, but we can trust that He is in control.

Our God is faithful

But what good is a sovereign God if He isn’t faithful and trustworthy? Our God is the most faithful and trustworthy being Who ever existed.

God was faithful to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and the Israelites in bringing the people out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. God was faithful to His people in the kingship of David and Solomon. And God was ultimately faithful in sending His Son.

Time and time again

There are promises of God yet to be fulfilled, but we look toward that future day with confidence in our God who has proven faithful time and time again.

And God has promised that He works all things for good and His glory (Rom. 8:28). We may only see the pain and suffering in our world today, but God sees the bigger picture — in fact, He sees the whole picture.

So while we may be discouraged about events unfolding around us, whether they be global, national or personal, we can rest in God’s sovereignty and faithfulness. We can rest in His goodness.

“Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You have established the earth, and it stands fast” (Ps. 119:90).
