Walking through Luke: Song

How often do we let our perceptions of our circumstances or our blessings shape our view of who God is?

NOTE: This post continues a series of writings through the book of Luke. See the previous post here.

After Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth and receives the joyful confirmation of her blessed pregnancy, she breaks into a song of praise that reveals her heart and understanding of God.

At the beginning of her song we see that she recognizes and celebrates the blessing God has given to her, but quickly she shifts her words and spends the majority of her praise worshiping the character of God Himself!

In every line of worship, she declares God’s perfect mercy and love along with His perfect justice and faithfulness. In all circumstances He is worthy of praise because His character is Holy. “Holy is His name” (v. 49).

How often do we let our perceptions of our circumstances or our blessings shape our view of who God is? Rather we need to take the lesson from Mary and let the true character of God direct our praise and understanding of our lives. Let us join in Mary’s song and draw our eyes to the one who is Holy, Holy, Holy, and praise His name!
